Lucknow, April 1, 2025 – PBKS vs LSG Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by a thriller at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Match 13 of IPL 2025. Played on Tuesday evening, the match was a show of high-pace cricket as PBKS chased a challenging total of 172 of LSG with 3 balls to spare.
LSG, who played their first home game of the season, posted a gritty 171/7 in their 20 overs after Shreyas Iyer’s fielding decision, following PBKS captain winning the toss. Nicholas Pooran (42 off 28) and Ayush Badoni (35 off 22) rescued the team from nervous jitters early on, and Abdul Samad’s carnage cameo of 23 off 7 balls in the final overs contributed to the score. Arshdeep Singh (2/34) and Lockie Ferguson (2/29), who was making his debut for PBKS, were the Kings’ best bowlers, dousing the run chase of LSG at the critical moments. During the run chase of PBKS, the beginning was shaky with the top-order batsman Priyansh Arya getting bowled out prematurely.
But a wizardly 97-run partnership between captain Shreyas Iyer (54 off 39) and Marcus Stoinis (46 off 31) changed the course. Despite horror show at the brink of achieving wickets via death overs, Shashank Singh’s measured 18 not out off 9 balls completed the match and took PBKS to 172/6 off 19.3 overs. Ravi Bishnoi of LSG (2/38) and Avesh Khan of LSG (1/42) battled with their blood but were unable to hold back the score against spin-friendly pitch. Shreyas Iyer, named Player of the Match, credited the team’s resilience: “We knew it’d be tough chasing on this track, but the boys showed character. Stoinis and Shashank were exceptional under pressure.” LSG captain Rishabh Pant, despite the loss, remained optimistic: “We put up a decent total, but their middle order executed better. We’ll bounce back.”
This win is the second PBKS vs LSG IPL 2025 consecutive win for PBKS, solidifying its place in the points table, with LSG to pray for recovering prior to the subsequent game. The game, organized by a deafening crowd of masses and preceded by singer Mika Singh performing pre-game, was a testament to the high-intensity character of the IPL tourney.
