Perth Scorchers have secured Ashton Turner with a four-year contract extension

The Perth Scorchers have reportedly told BBL rivals that they cannot have Turner after the captain re-signed for the next four years. Turner signed a new deal with the Scorchers that will last until 2027; the deal is reported to be worth about AU $1 million. It is claimed that he was targeted by several teams, but he chose to remain with the only team he has ever been a part of.

“Firstly, I would like to thank the Scorchers for the great support and opportunities, being that I, part of the Scorchers, have gotten throughout my career and the future,” I Turner am said. looking “I am forward to being in a phase of my career where I want to win championships, and I do not think there is a better place to do that than Perth.

The ability of our team to keep most of the players has been one of the factors that have helped us achieve good results in the past and is our future strategy. Besides that, I am also looking forward to aiding our young players to come into their own.”

It is not very common to find such long BBL contracts. Test wicketkeeper of Australia Alex Carey has a four-year deal with Adelaide Strikers, and the same is the case with Melbourne Renegades opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, whose deal also expires in 2028.

Turners is a Scorchers’ captain who is a very good leader and a very calm player who knows how to finish an innings; he is the Scorchers’ most valuable player. He is the team’s all-time leading run scorer and has an incredible winning record of 42 wins out of the 63 games that he has captained.

Turner was out of action for most of the last season’s BBL due to a knee injury and had been ruled out for the majority of this domestic season as well due to different injuries.

But he returned to the BBL with a bang in style, making a blistering 37-run knock, which helped the Scorchers beat the Melbourne Stars in the season opener at the Optus Stadium. Turner has played 9 ODIs and 19 T20Is from 2019-23 and is still one of the players that the national selection committee’s eyes are on, especially with the 2026 T20 World Cup in India around the corner.

‘I think once you lose that drive to play international cricket… look around at how hungry and motivated everyone else is… and it’d be easy to fall away once you lose that ambition,’ Turner had told ESPNcricinfo ahead of the domestic season.

‘I am at a very good place in my career where I don’t just assume that I will get a chance to play for Australia, and anything that happens from here on will be a bonus. It’s certainly a motivation and a driving force.’
