New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the forthcoming Champions Trophy after suffering a foot injury during a warm-up match against Afghanistan. Ferguson felt pain in his right foot after bowling in Sunday’s match, and medical evaluations have concluded that he will not be fit in time for the tournament. In reply, New Zealand Cricket has brought Kyle Jamieson in from Canterbury Kings as a replacement. Jamieson had been out of domestic cricket due to a back injury but is recognized for his pace and bounce, which head coach Gary Stead feels will come in handy in the conditions predicted in Pakistan. The squad also has Ben Sears missing because of a hamstring strain, joining India’s Jasprit Bumrah, South Africa’s Anrich Nortje, and Australia’s Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood as the biggest fast bowlers to miss out on the competition.
