Following their furious altercation during Australia’s second Test match against India in Adelaide, Travis Head and Mohammed Siraj were given penalties. When Siraj bowled Head in the middle and celebrated with great vigour, the flamboyant Australian batsman became enraged and cursed the pacer before making his way back to the pavilion, sparking the dispute.
Head later stated that he told Siraj, “well bowled,” but the pacer misunderstood, leading to a barrage of insults. Later on, though, the Indian pacer chastised Head for lying during the press conference. He said that Head never told him, “well bowled,” but instead mistreated him after he was out, which encouraged Siraj to celebrate wildly.
Harbhajan Singh, a former cricket player, wants the match to conclude before Australia’s third Test match at Gabba. He pointed out that since such incidents can occur on the field, ICC was a little too harsh on the players. He now wants the players to put aside outside controversies and concentrate on cricket.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has requested both the players to forget the series of events and concentrate on cricket than war of words. On the other hand, Harbhajan, speaking on Star Sports, lashed out at ICC for being too harsh and demanded to move on from the incident, since both teams are gearing up for the third Test in Brisbane.
Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla expressed similar views, calling for closure on the saga. However, he hopes that the big stakes at Gabba, with the series lead and a place in the final of the World Test Championship up for grabs, might bring out more fiery exchange between the two sides.
“You can’t really say who was wrong, who was right here. In my opinion, this should be the end of the matter at this time. What happened here should stay in Adelaide,” Chawla said. “There’s no going on this issue to the next match or the fourth test match, and I personally feel that things would surely get heated from the next Test match again.”
